Guided Tours

La Ruta Moskitía, based here in Honduras, can be your one-stop-shopping place for culture-adventure excursions to the sometimes-difficult-to-navigate-on-your-own Mosquitía. Tours last seven to nine days, and take you on visits to indigenous communities, but also include rafting, trekking, and animal spotting.

Mesoamerican Ecotourism Alliance (MEA) offers tours that visit Río Esteban, a Garífuna community on the Caribbean coast, with a chance to learn about women's cooperative projects and local artisan workshops. There's snorkeling, hiking, and boating on the tour operated by this Colorado-based company, too.

Mountain Travel Sobek, based in California, leads weeklong hiking tours that take in Pico Bonito National Park, and also include boating at the Cuero y Salado Reserve and a visit to the ruins at Copán.

The Michigan-based Uncommon Adventures can take you on eight-day sea-kayaking trips that originate at their own lodge in Roatán. Paddle out for day trips exploring the reef at Pigeon Cay, the island's mangrove tunnels, and other secret channels.

Honduras also figures prominently in various tour operators' multicountry trips. Overseas Adventure Travel includes visits to Copán in its 14-day "Route of the Maya" trip that takes in Belize, Guatemala, and El Salvador as well. Gap Adventures offers a similarly themed "Tikal to Copán Quest" trip that lasts for 15 days and also takes in Guatemala and El Salvador. Honduras is also a component in Gap's two monthlong tours of the entire Central American isthmus.
