Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Gualiqueme
At bridge at entrance to town, Choluteca, Choluteca, Honduras
By far, southern Honduras's snazziest lodging is this hotel—you can't miss it as you're coming into town from Tegucigalpa. The clientele is a mix of business travelers and travelers stopping here on their way through Central America. Although the place doesn't have a business vibe, Choluteca is primarily a business hub for this part of Honduras, so rates are discounted on weekends. Rooms are scattered among several buildings around this tree-shaded property, providing some relief from the heat. A nice pool, much-appreciated air-conditioning and high-ceilinged rooms help on that count, too. All rooms come with two queen-size beds, wood beams, and tile floors.
PROS
- refreshing oasis in sweltering Choluteca
- attentive staff
- good value
CONS
- rooms have a motel feel
- removed from center of town
- best to have a car to stay here
