Load up at lunch. Almuerzo (lunch) is the biggest meal of the day for Costa Ricans, and savvy travelers know that lunch specials are the biggest bargain of the day.

Rent a house. Rental houses are common all over Costa Rica, and popular in the Pacific coast destinations; they can accommodate a family for less than a hotel.

Book domestic flights in advance. Domestic airlines SANSA and Skyway serve many tourist hot spots in Costa Rica. Flights are cheap, if booked far in advance.

Book attractions with transport. Some attractions offer an affordable transport option providing door-to-door service.
