Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Valladolid

C. 7, Avda. 7, Heredia, Heredia, 40101, Costa Rica

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The classiest hotel in downtown Heredia, this four-story narrow building attracts business travelers and visiting professors at the nearby National University, although guests are just as likely to be vacationers. Tile floors and white walls aren't exactly inspired, but the high pressed-tin ceilings add a sense of space and some character. Bathrooms are bright and large, with hair dryers, and each room has a microwave oven and a mini-refrigerator. The hotel has a wheelchair-accessible room. A bar on the top floor has panoramic views to go along with drinks and bocas (snacks), from 4 pm to midnight Monday to Saturday.

PROS

  • central location
  • friendly staff
  • extensive buffet breakfast with homemade tortillas

CONS

  • limited parking
  • a few rooms show their age
  • on slightly steep hill if walking
