Opened in 1992, this pioneer of Sultanahmet's boutique hotel scene is aging both gracefully and ambitiously. Owner Ann Nevans, an American expat, has in recent years added three new all-suites wings to go along with the hotel's original building, which has small but charming rooms furnished with colorfully canopied four-posters. The new suites are more spacious, some with marble-lined bathrooms done up to look like mini hamams, and there's a two-floor suite with two balconies. The hotel's lush garden, where you can eat breakfast, is an extremely tranquil spot. Pros: funky, interesting atmosphere; central location. Cons: no elevator and winding staircases in main building; some rooms and bathrooms small.

We just returned from a 5 night stay in the Penthouse Suite. What an amazing view! The room was up a private stairway with skylight. We had a private terrace with stairs leading to the rooftop terrace. The room was furnished comfortably in Turkish style. Windows surrounded the living room and the bedroom nook. There was a small area with refrigerator and coffee maker with dishes and glasses. The bathroom was great. The shower was hammam style marble with wonderful water pressure and very hot water.
The common rooms were for breakfast and later in the day an informal bar was open. We used it for a glass of wine and the internet. Nice jazz played in the background.
The staff at the hotel were all friendly and helpful. They were never intrusive, always respecting our privacy. We loved our stay and will most definitely stay on our planned return.
