You may do a double-take when you walk into the lobby of the Schneckenhaus (Snail House) annex here and discover a miniversion of New York City's Guggenheim Museum's white ramp. Starkly and colorfully modern, this hotel—set about 3 mi outside the city center—is a change-of-pace place. The view from atop the prestigious hill that gives its name to both the neighborhood and the hotel is a big draw here; locals flock to the excellent Kiebitz restaurant to gaze down at the city from the outdoor terrace. But no one will cough at the crisply minimalistic rooms, all with parquet floors and many hued in deep orangey reds. Tram 6 heads straight to the hotel from the Hauptbahnhof.
