Owned by ABBA frontman Benny Andersson, the Rival is cool, but never to the point of being cold. Rooms here are full of delightful ideas—such as the bathroom's glass wall that lets you watch TV from the tub—and are stylish but still comfortable. Heavenly bedding, plump armchairs, and a teddy bear provide a cozy counterpoint to the modern art, oversized photographs, and funky lamps and fixtures. Explore the common spaces and you'll find a very cool bar, a lively restaurant, a bakery, and a restored movie theater.

Stayed four nights at the Rival August 2009, and would definitely stay again if ever back in Stockholm. This is a cool boutique hotel in Sodermalm, the nieghborhood island just south of the Gamla Stan. The hotel overlooks a nice little park (pay extra for the balcony rooms - worth it) that fills with locals and their children in the evenings. There are a number of nice cafes within a five-minute walk where you can mingle with the locals and avoid
the touristy spots The T-Bana station (a block away) will have you to the city center in ten. The lobby has a nice bar, and upstairs is a decent restaurant serving dinner nightly. Desk service was attentive and professional - the concierge, Sean, made a ton of reservations for us ahead of our trip, and even got us some tickets to a local soccer match.
