Fodor's Review

Opening in 2014, this museum uses cutting-edge technology to help you take part in Scotland's greatest battle, where Robert the Bruce defeated King Edward II at Bannockburn in 1314. The beautifully designed Bannockburn Heritage Centre celebrates the cunning of Robert the Bruce, who chose this site because its boggy ground would impede the English horses. The fields that surround the museum were the battlefield, and interactive displays re-create the sights and sounds of that great medieval encounter. The circular monument that stands outside is now capped by a poem by Kathleen Jamie.
