Fodor's Review

The jewel in Banff's crown is the grand mansion of Duff House, a splendid William Adam–designed (1689–1748) Georgian mansion. Used as a swish hotel in the Roaring '20s before becoming a sanitorium and then a military base, it lay empty and mouldering for years before it was restored in 1995 by the National Galleries of Scotland. It exhibits many fine paintings, including works by El Greco, Sir Henry Raeburn, and Thomas Gainsborough. A good tearoom and a gift shop are on the ground floor.
