Fodor's Expert Review Grote Kerk
Veere
Dating to the 15th century, this massive church—its size reflecting the town's former importance—has had a turbulent history. In 1686 the interior was destroyed by fire, and in the 19th century Napoléon requisitioned it as a barracks and hospital, which didn't help the general state of repair. The lofty tower looks strangely incomplete, and indeed it is, as it was meant to be higher. Nevertheless, a climb to the top is rewarded with some great views.
