Fodor's Review

More than 100 years old, the Albert Cuypmarkt is one of the biggest and busiest street markets in Europe. Like the majority of street names in De Pijp, it is named after a Golden Age painter. From Tuesday to Saturday, thousands of shoppers throughout the city flock to its more than 270 stalls selling fruit and vegetables, fish (live lobsters and crabs), textiles, and fashion, with a decades-long waiting list for a permanent booth. Things can get dramatic—if not occasionally violent—from 9 every morning, when the lottery for that day's available temporary spaces takes place.

Visit this, before going home!

A tram ride away from Centraal (No. 16), this is the place to go souvenir shopping before going home. You can find cheeses, jams, magnets, tulips, the tacky furry Dutch clogs and even Dutch bikes, along with the usual flea market stuff from Asia. It's one long street filled with choices including food. Have your lunch here and you can do it cheaply for less than 5 euros (Harringbrood, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches, Dutch Pancakes, fresh stroopwaffels,

etc.) and down it with fresh juices for 1 euro and you're all set.
