Vondel Amsterdam Centre

Fodor's Review:

On a quiet street next to the Vondelpark and very close to the Leidseplein, this hotel is refined and contemporary. The lobby and bar are filled with comfortable suede sofas, light-wood furnishings, sunlight, and flowers. The similarly colored rooms and apartments, generous in size, are enhanced with flashes of crimson, and a small garden terrace makes for a verdant oasis. Suites are on the top floor and have large windows that follow the shape of the roof and give you a scenic view of the neighborhood. Throughout the hotel are paintings by Amsterdam artist Peter Keizer. The hotel, like the park, gets its name from the 17th-century poet Joost van den Vondel, and the rooms are named after his poems. A lavish breakfast buffet is available, but is not included in the rate. Pros: artsy vibe, pleasant staff, lovely garden terrace. Cons: staff could be friendlier, rooms book up fast.
