Hotel Prinsengracht Amsterdam is central yet quiet and affordable, with an attractive garden, too.
Fodor's Expert Review
Two 17th-century connected townhouses offer small yet functional rooms and Prinsengracht canal views near the Rembrandtplein, the Flower Market, and the Museum District. Staff are welcoming and friendly.

Room
The 34 small rooms are more functional than stylish, with dated carpets and cliched art (clogs, tulips, etcetera) but the beds are comfy and those in front overlook the houseboat-graced canal through huge sash windows. Those in the back face a delightful garden—which also has its own small, simple guesthouse that sleeps up to four. Doubles come with queen-sized beds, free WiFi, flat-screen TVs and Nespresso coffee makers.
Tip Single travelers take note: this hotel still has affordable single rooms. And, parents, kids under four stay for free!
Bathroom
Tight, contemporary bathrooms include all the usual amenities, including an adjustable shower (some have shower curtains).
You Should Know The shower tends to splash, so ask for extra towels.
Lobby
Nothing noteworthy, but there is a 24-hour front desk.
Dining
Breakfast is served in a jewel-toned breakfast room, or on the garden terrace, weather permitting.
Drinking
There is a bar, but with so many options in the area, especially on nearby Utrechtsestraat, we urge you to go exploring!
Gardens
A very attractive garden, with a sunny terrace and comfy couches perfect for relaxing in the warmer months, is included in the bargain.

Restaurants
For a cheap and cheerful (but very good) Greek gyros meal, there’s Meat & Greek (4-minute walk). Or why not try Indonesian rijsttafel (“rice table”) a feast of flavors from the Netherlands’ favorite adopted cuisine at Tempo Doeloe (5-minute walk)? You can go Dutch–at least as far as cuisine type is concerned–at Restaurant Lt. Cornelis (12-minute walk).
