Some historians maintain that Arezzo's oddly shaped, sloping Piazza Grande was once the site of an ancient Roman forum. Now it hosts a first-Sunday-of-the-month antiques fair as well as the Giostra del Saracino (Joust of the Saracen), featuring medieval costumes and competition, held here in the middle of June and on the first Sunday of September. Check out the 16th-century loggia designed by native son Giorgio Vasari on the northeast side of the piazza.
