Fodor's Review

The delightfully funky surroundings in this boutique hotel include sponge-painted walls, brush-painted chandeliers, and some views of the spires and cupolas of the Basilica di Sant'Antonio. Artists (and others) can add graffiti to the elevator walls to their heart's content, the staff is amiable, and the location central.

The Art Hotel Al Fagiano, Padua, Italy

We stayed at the Art Hotel Al Fagiano (Padua, Italy) for two nights. This is a great little hotel in a desirable location near the Basilica. On arrival in Padua, we purchased the Padua card that included all public transportation, including the tram that conveniently stopped near the Al Fagiano. How nice was that! The hotel had unique art work which I found memorable and very refreshing. Too many hotels today have art works that don’t

make a statement; they are somewhat generic and standard. Not here. Not these. These works insist on their originality and individuality. You couldn’t just walk down the hallway to your room in a daze. You looked at the art that you were passing and each time you saw a little something that you missed on your previous walk. I guess I found that the art set this hotel apart from others in the same budget/ moderate category. If not for the art, then this hotel would be like all the others in their price range, and would be forgettable and undistinguishable. The art in the individual rooms carried the same strength of statement and thus made the room décor refreshing. The room furnishings were okay, neat, clean, and functional. In addition, we encountered a most unique appliance - a small ash tray-like contraption that could plugged in. One places a small strip into the appliance to attract mosquitoes (we think we’re right in our interpretation). We didn’t have a problem with mosquitoes in the room so we can’t report on its effectiveness.
