The grand Vesuvian villas along the Golden Mile are normally just for visits, but you can actually stay in the magnificent pink and Pompeiian-red Miglio d'Oro, where spacious, high-ceilinged guest rooms are done in understated tones in fitting contrast to the sea view and vivid garden-green hues outside. A former stable with a volcanic floor contains the breakfast room, and on the first floor there's a restaurant. There is also an outdoor pool.
