Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Toro

Via Roma 16, Ravello, Campania, 84010, Italy

Two minutes from the Duomo, this relaxing, good-value, little place with a garden, antiques, and a history that includes stays by some illustrious artistic guests (e.g., the composer Edvard Grieg and the artist M.S. Escher) has been family-run for three generations. Grieg wrote in the guest book that he was "molto contento" and Escher's celebrated prints of spiraling staircases were inspired by those he saw in Ravello and Atrani.

PROS

  • a small piece of Ravello's artistic history
  • very central
  • friendly, helpful staff

CONS

  • long flight of steps to climb
  • space rather cramped
  • may lack finesse for some
