Dar Poeta

Dar Poeta Review

Romans drive across town for great pizza from this neighborhood institution on a small street in Trastevere. Maybe it's the dough—it's made from a secret blend of flours that's reputed to be easier to digest than the competition. They offer both thin-crust pizza and a thick-crust ("alta") Neapolitan-style pizza with any of the given toppings. For dessert, there's a ridiculously good calzone with Nutella chocolate-hazelnut spread and ricotta cheese, so save some room. Service from the owners and friendly waitstaff is smile-inducing.

After doing a little bit of searching we found this little place on a quiet little street in Trastavere the first week in August. We sat outside and ordered a pizza and a salad. The pizza was outstanding! The crust was the best part and I usually don't even eat the crust! I could have skipped the salad and just ordered another pizza however. The service was nothing to write home about, not very friendly, but for the pizza i'd go back in a heartbeat. Thanks for the recommendation Fodors!

we went to Dar Poeta after reading reviews on Fodors last year. what an experience, the pizza was to die for and we also had the calzone, unbelievable. worth trakking the streets with our map to find. we couldnt believe the amount of people waiting in the street for a table. the locals approach the head waiter whom is waiting outside and let him know how many in their party and he keeps a list. as there was only two of us and we went early and got the last table outside quite easily. by the time we left there were at least 60-80 people waiting for a table. being the city of pizzas you would think you would just find another place that had a table. we were delighted with the place & the italians. we are from Australia and most Aussies would not line up and wait we would just go elsewhere. loved the place.

Great pizza, great service, great atmosphere, low price. Not chicago style but still really good. Try the dessert calzones.
Make sure you find this place on a map before you walk to it. It's a little easy to get lost in the Trastevere.
