Shannon Airport, 93 km (55 miles) south of Galway in County Clare, is the most accessible point of entry for international travelers to this region. Flying time from Dublin is about 30 minutes. Aer Arann services all three Aran Islands from Connemara Airport at Inverin, which is 27 km (16 miles) west of Galway on the R336. Ask about transport to the airport when buying your ticket: there is usually a courtesy bus from the center of Galway City.

Dublin Airport offers a wider range of international routes and is 216 km (134 miles) east of Galway by motorway.

Airport Transfers

With all the major car rental companies in its concourse and frequent bus transport on-site, Shannon Airport is well connected to Galway, Limerick, and Ennis by road. The M18 opened in late 2017, cutting the drive from Shannon Airport to Galway to just one hour. The airport is 25 km (16 miles) south of Ennis, 84 km (52 miles) south of Galway, and 64 km (40 miles) southeast of Doolin, the seasonal port for the Aran Islands.
