Charmingly set on the pedestrian street that leads to Azay's château gates, this red-shuttered town house hides an authentic, 19th-century schoolhouse within a delightful courtyard-garden, now fitted out with cozily traditional guest rooms (and the stray blackboard and school desk). No matter if you can't land one of the conversation pieces in "La Classe"—the other chambers are fine enough, decorated in pastels as warm as the delightfully helpful owners, the Mariotons. The village has quite a few restaurant selections—if you just don't want to stroll around and pick, ask Cédric and Emmanuelle about the best. Pros: family welcome; great value. Cons: cramped public areas; thin walls.Manager.
