Mother Shipton's Cave
Mother Shipton's Cave Review
Across the river from the center of town, this tourist attraction is tucked away in a pleasant park. According to local lore, the cave is the birthplace of the titular 16th-century alleged prophetess, who supposedly foretold such events as the defeat of the Spanish Armada. The mineral-rich well beside her cave is famed for its ability to turn any object to stone in four months.
