The Mermaid Review

Once the headquarters of a smuggling gang, this classic half-timber inn has been in business for six centuries; its sloping floors, oak beams, low ceilings, and a huge open hearth testify to its roots in the 15th century. Rooms vary in size; the most expensive have four-posters. The decor is a bit dated for the price, but the history keeps the crowds coming in. In the main restaurant, you can soak up period details while choosing from an extensive British menu.
