Lobkovický palác (Lobkowicz Palace)

Lobkovický palác (Lobkowicz Palace) Review

Greatly benefiting from a recent renovation, this palace is a showcase for baroque and rococo styling. Exhibits trace the ancestry of the Lobkowicz family, who were great patrons of the arts in their heyday. (Beethoven was one of the artists who received their funding.) The audio tour adds a personal touch: it's narrated by William Lobwicz, the family scion who spearheaded the property's restitution and rehabilitation, and includes quite a few anecdotes about the family through the years. Although inside Prague Castle, this museum has a separate admission.

The Lobkowicz Palace is now back in the hands of the Lobkowicz family who have taken many of the products of their art and music patronage and put it on display. One can view paintings by Breugel and Cannelletto, a large collection of arms and amour, and musical instruments and manuscripts related to the patronage of Beethoven. The great value is the best audio guide I have heard that comes free with admission. One of the current family members serves as our audio tourgiude.

This is truly a world class museum. Do not miss it.
