Fodor's Review:

If you want to get a chronological understanding of Czech history from the beginnings of the Great Moravian Empire in the 9th century to the Czech national uprising in 1848, this is the place. The building was the residence of the powerful Catholic Lobkowicz family from the beginning of the 17th century until the 1940. During the 1970s the building was restored to its early baroque appearance and now houses the National Museum's permanent exhibition on Czech history. Copies of the crown jewels are on display here, but it's the rich collection of illuminated Bibles, old musical instruments, coins, weapons, royal decrees, paintings, and statues that deserves a visit. Detailed information on the exhibits is available in English. Although inside Prague Castle, this museum has a separate admission.

The best Museum in Prague!!!

Posted by JKellem from Boston on 11/2/07
The Lobkowicz Palace is now back in the hands of the Lobkowicz family who have taken many of the products of their art and music patronage and put it on display. One can view paintings by Breugel and Cannelletto, a large collection of arms and amour, and musical instruments and manuscripts related to the patronage of Beethoven. The great value is the best audio guide I have heard that comes free with admission. One of the current family members serves as our audio tourgiude. This is truly a world class museum. Do not miss it.
