K&K am Waagplatz

K&K am Waagplatz Review

This old house was once the domicile of the Freysauff family, who counted among their close friends Leopold Mozart, the composer's father. Its cellar, the downstairs section of the restaurant, is still called the Freysauff (but don't be misled—this translates into "free drinks"). The restaurant is particularly pleasant, with white-linen tablecloths, candles, and flowers, and windows opening onto the street. Menu selections consist of locally caught fish, delicious chicken-breast medallions, lentil salad with strips of goose breast, and traditional Austrian dishes and game in season. Service is friendly.

The potato soup was surprisingly good, and is available on the regular menu. I also had the seasonal venison stew (yummy.)
