If you want Spanish-style seafood dishes, head to El Pescador at the Plaza del Mercado. Surrounding a fruit and vegetable market that dates from 1910 are a few dozen restaurants that are the real deal. Our favorite seafood restaurant is El Pescador, a narrow storefront selling the freshest of seafood. If you come in the evening it might be cool enough to eat at one of the handful of tables on the square. If not, settle for the green polka-dot tables in the dining room.
The chillo entero frito (fried whole red snapper) and camarones al ajillo (shrimp with garlic) are tasty, but the standout is the arroz con calamari (squid ink rice). This dramatic inky-black dish draws oohs and aahs from surrounding customers when it arrives at your table. This is not a late-night dinner place, they close at 7:30.
