After a major, much-needed renovation in 2012, this adults-only resort has gone from dowdy to nearly grand-dame status, having been brought up to a completely new level with such facilities as a new gym and wellness center. A beautiful fountain beckons you into the pool at the heart of this resort, one of the prettiest spots in the sprawling Riu complex of five hotels. Nightly turndown service, 24-hour room service, free Wi-Fi (in rooms and in the lobby), and premium liquors in the in-room dispensers set this hotel apart from the two more basic sister properties with which it shares facilities (and bring it closer to the more upscale Hotel Riu Palace Punta Cana). Waiter service is an option at the beach and the pool, so you can kick back and keep the Banana Mamas coming. Food is now receiving good comments, and of the à la carte options, the chic pierside Krystal restaurant is the standout. The hotel's petite casino is open only to resort guests. It's a short stroll to the complex's shops on Caribbean Street and the popular Pacha disco, which also has been redone.
