Fodor's Expert Review Compass Point

W. Bay St., Gambier Village, New Providence Island, Bahamas

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

This whimsical-looking hotel made up of brightly colored one- and two-story cottages offers a relaxing alternative to many of the area's major resorts. Oceanfront rooms at the hotel, which was built by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, include a private downstairs deck complete with a kitchenette for entertaining. Windows on all sides of the rooms open to allow a cool breeze to drift in. Sit on the dock and enjoy one of the most stunning sunset views the island has to offer.

PROS

  • fun and funky accommodations
  • access to incredible private beach
  • romantic sunset views

CONS
