Tasty's

Tasty's Review

Once your eyes adjust to the quirky kiwi, lilac, and coral color scheme, you'll find that breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Tasty's is, well, very tasty. It's open all day long, so if you come off a midafternoon plane starving, head directly here—it's right near the airport. Chef-owner Dale Carty trained at Malliouhana, and his careful, confident preparation bears the mark of French culinary training, but the menu is classic Caribbean. It's worth leaving the beach at lunch for the lobster salad here. A velvety pumpkin soup garnished with roasted coconut shards is superb, as are the seared jerk tuna and the garlic-infused marinated conch salad. Yummy desserts end meals on a high note. This is one of the few restaurants that do not allow smoking, so take your Cubans elsewhere for an after-dinner puff. The popular Sunday brunch buffet features island specialties like salt-fish cakes.

We heard they served Caribbean local breakfast of saltfish, Johnny cakes and plantains so called ahead to insure they had a table and the menu item. We were assured all was a go so went for Sunday brunch. The place was empty. We ordered and 10 min. later the apathetic waitress told us there were no Johnny cakes (it's a dumpling made in minutes with flour and water) and no plantains (I passed a stand 100 feet down the road selling a plethora). A big disappointment. Later we learned this has happened to others. Loyal patrons swear by this place.
