Crayfish is always on the menu at this elegant eatery (the building once housed the first bank in Kaikoura), but there are plenty of alternatives, such as venison, lamb loin, wild hare, and at least one vegetarian dish. A favorite is Fish of the Bay -- usually a roasted grouper fillet, served with walnut-and-parsley pesto and lemon-baked risotto. The desserts are fabulous, too. The décor is stylish and locally made gilded mirrors fill the walls, but the best scenes are the seaside views from the front windows.
