Set in the old Takaka theatre, this place is synonomous with the alternative, funky vibe that is Golden Bay. The decor and menu have evolved since the days of bean bags and bliss balls, but the essence remains. Best of all, the food is substantial and wholesome, and there's plenty of room to find a table, even at the height of summer. Eat indoors or out. There's a blackboard menu (try the pizza) and some robust cabinet food if you're short on time. And, yes, you'll possibly want to buy one of the cafe's cookbooks to find their (not so) secret recipes. The coffee is noteably good as well. This is a daytime cafe, open from 7am until about 4 or, as happens in peak summer holiday time, until the food runs out! So it really is fresh.
