Fodor's Review

Named for well-known Hokitiki surgeon-mountaineer-conservationist, Dr. Ebenezer Teichelmann, who built the original part of the house, this place provides a friendly, traditional B&B experience in the center of town. Hosts Frances and Brian are happy to make suggestions for local activities, which will definitely incude visiting the museum directly across the road. Brian is enthusiastically involved in running the museum. Accommodation is in five rooms in the house (upstairs and downstairs) and in a cute, stand-alone cottage set in a delightful "miner's garden" behind the house. Guests are hosted to fully-cooked breakfasts and welcome to share the lounge in the main house. The rimu-wood bookcase is full of literature about the area.
