Jet-Boat Rides

Dart River Wilderness Jet. With Dart River you can get an unrivaled look at rugged Mount Aspiring National Park, one of the most spectacular parts of South Island. Their route includes jet-boating on the upper and lower Dart River, along with a bit of walking and a back-road tour of the "Paradise" area. The Funyak option takes you upstream by jet-boat, then you paddle gently downstream, exploring the Rockburn Chasm on the way. Start your adventure from their office in Glenorchy, or catch a shuttle bus, departing daily from Queenstown for the 45-minute ride to the boats. Rates include transfer. Corner of Camp and Shotover St., Queenstown, Otago, 9300. 0800/327–853; 03/442–9992; www.dartriver.co.nz. From NZ$219.

Riders are restricted by height and weight and you need to be somewhat flexible to board the craft. Not recommended if you are subject to seasickness.
