Thames Garden

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

This is one of New Zealand's most unusual gardens. For more than 50 years, Pam Gwynne worked every square inch of her ¼-acre lot, creating a tangle of paths that wind through lush junglelike surroundings. Pam collected objects and ingeniously incorporated them into surreal and often humorous tableaux with the plantings. On one path, a row of ceramic pitchers is suspended from a rod. Although the garden is small, allow yourself time to peer at the details. Pam's daughters continue to manage the garden and will open it to visitors by appointment - call Garden House Florist (07 868 7955 day time hours) to organize. The entry fee goes to local charities.
