Churrasco

$$

The South Americans love their beef, and this lively Brazilian eatery—a meat fiesta for carnivores—celebrates this fact. The house specialty in this popular and lively place is rodizio, various cuts of meats flame-grilled on skewers over a charcoal barbecue. The staff keeps delivering dishes to your table until you tell them to stop. Other notables include steaks and spare ribs. There are also seafood alternatives, too, along with—whisper it quietly—a vegetarian option.

Core BBQ Garden & Bar

This lively beach bar and barbecue restaurant is Japanese-owned, which is reflected in the impeccably friendly and efficient service. The emphasis here is on surf-and-turf, with steaks and lobster featuring heavily among the entrées. For an added buzz, there are free Polynesian dance shows most nights. Reservations are not essential but recommended.

Jamaican Grill Tumon

$

You may be several thousand miles from the Caribbean, but the tropical Jamaican creations served in this bright, airy, and popular restaurant fit Guam's laid-back island mood perfectly. There are several branches across Guam, but this is the most convenient to Tumon Beach. The menu is extensive, but the beef ribs and jerk chicken are favorites among regular visitors. The red rice is also highly recommended, especially when served with the fresh-catch-of-the-day seafood option. Service is efficient, and you can't beat the reasonable prices. It's popular for take-out, too.

This is arguably the most popular restaurant on Guam, so call ahead for a reservation. But if you do turn up without one, you can add your name to a waiting list and pass the time (usually no more than 30 minutes) on the nearby beach. Inside the bright, lively dining room, you only have to look at all the happy diners around you to know the food is delicious. A favorite appetizer here is the Beggar's Purse (fresh sushi-grade tuna encased in a pancake and served with wasabi). The barbecue main dishes are highly acclaimed, and the extensive menu also features burgers, salads, steaks, risotto, and even Alaskan king crab. Save room for the excellent desserts.

Inside the Hilton Resort, this local outpost of the renowned Pacific Rim chain is one of the most elegant dining options on Guam. The chic, minimalist dining room has dark-wood tables dressed with gold, woven place mats. Showcasing the exciting culinary prowess of its innovative founder, chef Roy Yamaguchi, the Hawaiian-Japanese fusion menu incorporates everything from sushi and beef ribs to seafood and steaks, and a not-to-be-missed chocolate soufflé for dessert. From among several signature dishes, consider choosing the mouthwatering hibachi-Grilled Atlantic salmon. There's also live entertainment some nights.
