Fodor's Expert Review Pape'ete Public Market (Marché de Pape'ete)

Pape'ete Market/Bazaar

You could spend hours wandering around this lively market, which sells almost everything from fruit and vegetables to fish and handicrafts to jewelry and Monoi oil. Watch the mamas weave baskets from palm fronds and at around 4 pm watch as the catch of the day is unloaded. There are food outlets downstairs and more shops and a small café and live band playing upstairs. The market opens very early (around 5:30 am) and on Sunday it's filled with Tahitian women buying food for their family's Sunday lunch.
