Fodor's Expert Review Café des Amis

Back in the day, a trip to Hoi An would not have been complete without dropping in to this riverside institution. There's no menu, just the charismatic chef Mr. Kim, who would ask if you wanted to eat a seafood or vegetarian meal and then start bringing you course after course of food while regaling you with stories of times gone by. These days, Mr. Kim is slowly handing the restaurant reins over to his son, who does things more conventionally. Still, the waterfront location and porch seating make this a good place to rest up with a refreshing drink.
