This newer hotel (opened in 2004) could truly become something of a local legend. It's built in exclusively Lanna style on an island in the Mae Kok River, just a short walk from the city center. Rooms are furnished with exquisite Northern Thai antiques and reproductions, while public areas are a Lanna-style mixture of whitewashed walls, brickwork, and dark teak. The airy restaurant and landscaped swimming pool are on the riverbank, with views of the mountains beyond. For real seclusion, book one of the villas, which have their own private pools. Pros: elegant, peaceful, and impeccably designed; reliable airport pickup. Cons: some rooms in need of refurbishing; unreliable hot water.
