Rim Doi means "on the edge of the mountain," so it's fitting that two extraordinary peaks loom over this peaceful little resort near Chiang Dao. After a day exploring the nearby caves or venturing into the mountains, it's just the place to relax and prepare for the journey farther north. You'll probably be tempted to stay longer than one night. Just B350 buys you a comfortable bed in a rustic bungalow, while a more stylish room in a modern extension overlooking a placid lake is an unbeatable B800. Pros: pleasant walks on the grounds; anglers can hire a rod and fish for perch in the resort's well-stocked lake. Cons: staff have limited English-language skills.
