The standard of public healthcare in Sri Lanka is mediocre. Avoid government hospitals, such as Colombo General, if possible. If your medical insurance covers it, ask to be taken to a private hospital instead, as these have relatively high standards and English-speaking doctors. Malaria is not an issue in Colombo but is in rural areas. Take precautions if you plan to travel outside the city.
