Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium (大阪府立体育会館). 大阪府立体育会館 The sumo scene has become a hotbed of international rivalry as Bulgarians, Estonians, and some Russians with attitude have been edging the local talent out of the basho (ring). From the second Sunday through the fourth Sunday in March, one of Japan's six sumo tournaments takes place in Osaka. Most seats, known as masu-seki, are prebooked before the tournament begins, but standing-room tickets (¥1,000) and a limited number of seats (¥3,000) are available on the day of the event.
