An excellent traditional ryokan, Yachio is known for its impressive garden, eager staff, and excellent meals. It's a stone's throw from Nanzen-ji temple and the Heian Jingu palace, as well as nearby attractions like the National Museum of Modern Art. The lovely rooms—several of which are unusually spacious—are all nicely designed. The smaller rooms can be less expensive than counterparts in other upscale inns, particularly if you choose one without a private bath. Most rooms overlook the green and peaceful garden—great for unwinding with a book at the end of a long day. The up-to-date bathrooms are terrific; one has a cedar tub as big as a twin bed. Breakfast and dinner can be served in your room or in the restaurant.
