Fodor's Review

After a long day of sightseeing, there is nothing more relaxing than an outdoor natural hot spring in the mountains. Ryokan Seryo is across from the huge Sanzen-in temple in Ohara, north of downtown Kyoto. The ryokan is in the countryside, so the rooms are larger than you'll find in the city. Plump futons on raised platforms and recliners next to quaint room-side gardens add charm to the guest rooms. The kaiseki dinner includes mountain vegetables and seasonal specialties like wild boar stew in winter. Reserve your own private outdoor bath with a mountain view that could possibly be the highlight of your whole trip. The hotel is a 70-minute bus ride from Kyoto Station.
