Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is a major international gateway for Indonesia, with nearly 3 million foreign visitor arrivals in 2012. The airport has connections to many cities around Indonesia, since the island is by far the country’s most popular domestic vacation destination. Several airlines offer flights between Jakarta and Bali for fares as low as Rp450,000 each way. Yogyakarta is just over an hour away, as is Ujung Pandang in Sulawesi.

Indonesia's national carrier Garuda flies to Bali from Singapore (2½ hours), Kuala Lumpur (3 hours), and Hong Kong (5 hours). Other carriers also offer connections to Bangkok (just over 4 hours), Taipei (5½ hours), and Tokyo (9½ hours), as well as the Australian cities of Perth (4 hours), Melbourne (7½ hours), and Sydney (9½ hours). Visa on arrival is available for $25 to passengers from more than 60 countries, including the U.S., Canada, and The European Union.
