The Leela Kempinski Kovalam Beach Resort Review

Once run by the government, the best-situated property in Kovalam recently completed a major renovation under the Kempinski Hotels group. The main block of exterior, designed by Mumbai-based architect Charles Correa, is built in tiers on a bluff overlooking the Arabian Sea. All rooms have balconies and at least a partial sea view; beachfront chalets also have tiny private compounds and windowed bathrooms. Views of the sunsets are spectacular here. In the "private club" wing, guests pay a premium for their own restaurant, spa, and swimming pool.

Better avoided. This is a five star price with a very ordinary experience. Great property (probably the best in Kovalam), but I don't think Leela has as yet come even close to Taj, Oberoi or ITC hotels as far as understanding hospitality. A long way to go.
