It opened in 1907, before New Delhi even existed, and it's the oldest hotel in the city. Now run by the Oberoi group, the hotel remains a classic Raj building, with high-arched windows, deep verandas, grand old trees, pleasant lawns, and a quirky interior. Thanks to the building's age, the rooms and bathrooms are huge. Service is friendly and close to flawless. With the adjacent Civil Lines Metro Station just 50 meters away, the hotel is now a speedy, air-conditioned subway ride from both Old Delhi and Connaught Place. Pros: coffee shop has a nice patio and an English feel, enhanced by the British tour groups that often stay here; nearly finished renovations have brightened up what were formerly dark and outdated rooms, though a few still sport faded silk bedspreads and worn carpets. Cons: even with the metro, you are far removed from the rest of the city; food and beverage options are limited.
