It opened in 1907, before New Delhi even existed, and it's the oldest hotel in the city. Now run by the Oberoi group, the hotel remains a classic Raj building, with high-arched windows, deep verandas, grand old trees, pleasant lawns, and a quirky interior. Thanks to the building's age, the rooms and bathrooms are huge, but they're dark and have 1970s carpeting. The Maidens' problem is location -- it's north of Old Delhi, in the middle of a Metro-train construction zone, making it ideal for Old Delhi excursions but not for much else. The coffee shop has a nice patio and an English feel, enhanced by the British tour groups that often stay here.
