Fodor's Review

Although it's just two blocks from the Hengshan Road nightlife district, the Anting Villa Hotel is a convenient and surprisingly quiet retreat tucked away down a small side street. Superior rooms in the 10-story tower are comfortable, although the decor could use some sprucing up and the beds, in traditional Chinese style, are on the hard side. It's worth it to pay a little extra for a garden-view room overlooking the cedar-shaded grounds and namesake 1932 Spanish-style villa. Although their English is quite limited, the hotel's staffers seem eager to please.

Pleasant Place to Stay

I stayed here with my family in November of 2006. The hotel is beautful and the rooms are quite nice and clean. We had our 15 month old daughter with us and the room was large enough to easily accomodate a full size crib. Although the hotel is western styled, complete with an overpriced coffee atrium area, the hotel lacks personnel that speak conversational English. However, I do not believe that this should be a bar to staying here. If you are

able to speak some basic Chinese (coupled with hand gestures) you should be able to get your point across. The breakfast here is very good, compared to some of the hotels we stayed at, and serves both Western and Chinese breakfast. The location of the hotel is not the best. It is about 15 minutes from the Bund area via taxi. However, there are some banks with ATM's and decent restaurants within walking distance. If you do not speak Chinese, make sure to take a hotel business card as we found very few taxi drivers familiar with the hotel. Overall it is a nice hotel and the price was very reasonable for the quality. (Roughly $80 per night)
