Getting Here and Around
Air Travel. Besides the major international airports in Beijing and Shanghai, other domestic air hubs include Nanjing, Qingdao, and Shijiazhuang. Distances between sights are not long in this region.
Bus Travel. With even more destinations and departures than the rail system, buses can be essential for trips of less than 4 or 5 hours. Buses vary wildly in terms of quality and comfort, but sometimes there's just no other option.
Train Travel. China's excellent rail system is probably your best bet for getting around this region. The distances aren't quite long enough for air travel, and trains offer a greater variety of departure times and destinations. Tickets can be purchased either through your hotel or at the stations, although the lines are long and vendors can be curt with non-Chinese speakers.
