Fodor's Expert Review Riad Chakir Mogador
13, rue Malek Ben Morhal, Essaouira, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco
A good budget option, this colorful and friendly riad is actually made up of three neighboring houses. The ground-floor atrium has large communal areas for relaxing among stone pillars, an indoor fountain, and a cluttered collection of paintings and plants. Guest rooms are simply furnished and have Moroccan charm, but they can be a little cramped. Rooms in the 20s are larger, and room 10 (on the roof) has a private terrace. English-speaking receptionist Karim will make you feel very welcome.
PROS
- great value for the location
- friendly, English-speaking staff
- lovely roof terrace
CONS
- some rooms cramped
- more homey comfort than boutique chic
- used by a travel company, so often full
