Ya'aran Farm

Ya'aran Farm Review

This small but popular farm, run by Yavshi and Bar Ya'aran, produces more than 10 types of hard and soft goat cheese. It's best to come on a Saturday, when the couple bakes their own bread. If Bar isn't too busy, she'll explain to you her vision of living off the land, using only rainwater and solar power and windmills for energy. The Jewish National Fund hired the couple in 1995 as fire watchers for the newly replanted forest. Since grazing animals keep down the brush, the Ya'arans began herding goats. The farm is 5 miles east of Bet Shemesh.
