Not too long ago, migrating sperm whales could still be seen from the beaches at Quintay, although they were all but exterminated by the whaling industry that sprang up in Quintay in 1942. Whaling was banned in 1967, and Quintay returned to being a quiet fishing village. If you wonder what the central coast was like before condos began springing up, head to this charming spot.
